The Patriot Machinist Original Extended Safety is the design that started it all. Engineered to provide a larger, more accessible thumb safety than the factory part, it offers improved control and more positive engagement for concealed carry, defensive use, and everyday range shooting.

Compared to our Slim Extended Safety, the Original version features a thumb pad approximately 1/16 inch wider, providing an even larger contact surface for shooters who prefer maximum accessibility and positive manipulation.

Custom Modification Service

Each Original Extended Safety is custom built to order by modifying your factory Smith & Wesson M&P Shield safety.

How it works:

1. Place your order.

2. Email Patriot Machinist to receive current shipping instructions and the correct mailing address.

3. Mail your original OEM safety using the provided instructions.

4. Your safety will be professionally modified, Cerakote finished, inspected, and returned to you.

Because each safety is individually crafted from your original factory component, production begins only after your OEM safety has been received.
